Are your wellness habits in need of a refresh?
We’ve all been there. Maybe you started the year with the best intentions, but your goals got lost in the shuffle of everyday life.
It’s not uncommon to make more than one attempt at a new habit before it sticks. That’s why it’s important to be kind to yourself and practice patience.
Check in with your health goals and use these four tips to create lasting habits.
1. Set small, achievable goals.
Sustainable habits are more likely to last. For example, take a 30-minute walk three days a week or schedule an “exercise snack” in your day, such as 30 seconds of wall pushups.
2. Give yourself anchors.
An anchor is a routine task that you do without thinking. Attaching a new habit to an anchor increases your likelihood of success. You can do a short meditation while waiting for your coffee to brew or take a walk around the block after you eat lunch.
3. Set up environmental cues.
Your surroundings can have a powerful impact on your moods, productivity and habits. Support your wellness goals with environmental cues such as creating a dedicated workout or meditation space, keeping a water bottle on your desk or leaving your running shoes next to the door.
4. Invite others to join you.
Ask your friends or neighbors if they want to join you in a regular activity. Together, you can take an online yoga class or walk the neighborhood. Regular encouragement can motivate you to reach your wellness goals.
